Two Algorand NFT Marketplaces Remain Active After RandGallery Shutdown

The Post-RandGallery Landscape
Algorand’s NFT ecosystem has contracted sharply in 2026. RandGallery, the network’s first and longest-running marketplace, is winding down after Goanna DAO determined it could no longer sustain operations. The site remains accessible but shows clear signs of closure: no new listings have been added in months, and the team’s final update confirms the decision. The shutdown leaves only two marketplaces—Dartroom and Downbad—still processing transactions on Algorand.
What Remains Operational
Dartroom and Downbad are the sole platforms currently serving Algorand NFT buyers and sellers. Both sites load without error, display recent listings, and show on-chain activity within the last 24 hours. Dartroom’s interface emphasizes curated collections, while Downbad retains a more open, community-driven model. Neither marketplace discloses its fee structure publicly; users must inspect individual transactions or contact support for details.
Three other projects—Shufl, EXA Market, and ALGOxNFT—have ceased operations. Shufl’s domain returns a 530 server error, EXA Market’s marketplace page is a 404, and all tested ALGOxNFT domains fail DNS resolution.
Technical Foundations and User Risks
Algorand NFTs adhere to three metadata standards: ARC-3 (basic asset metadata), ARC-19 (dynamic URI templates for mutable content), and ARC-69 (metadata written on-chain in the asset-configuration transaction note field). Royalties are opt-in and enforced through ARC-18, a separate smart contract that Clawback/Freeze/Manager addresses can point to. This design means royalties are not automatic: marketplaces must explicitly integrate ARC-18, and sellers can bypass it by transferring assets off-market. Neither Dartroom nor Downbad publicly documents which standards they enforce.
The RandGallery shutdown underscored a critical lesson for users: NFTs are self-custodied. When a marketplace closes, assets remain in the owner’s wallet, provided the private key is secure. The platform’s disappearance does not erase the underlying ASA (Algorand Standard Asset), but it does remove the primary venue for discovery and sales. Buyers must now rely on direct wallet transfers or the remaining marketplaces for liquidity.
Wallet Compatibility and Next Steps
Both Dartroom and Downbad support the most widely used current Algorand wallets: Pera Wallet and Defly Wallet. Users should verify that their wallet is funded with at least 0.1 ALGO to cover transaction fees, which remain consistently below 0.002 ALGO per transfer.
For collectors seeking alternatives, the contraction leaves few options. Dartroom and Downbad are now the default venues for Algorand NFT activity, but their long-term viability depends on transaction volume and community support. The ecosystem’s resilience will hinge on whether these platforms can attract enough users to sustain operations—or whether another entrant will emerge to fill the gap left by RandGallery’s departure.
