Method Wallet's Algorand wallet enters its fifth year in private beta

Still in private beta
Type an email address into methodwallet.app1 and the reply is a promise: 'Finally, an Algorand wallet you'll love.' The page beneath the headline says 'Currently in private beta.' The form accepts the address, posts it — together with the URL of the page the visitor came from — to the site's own /api/waitlist endpoint, and reassures: 'We don't spam. We'll only use your email to notify you when it's your turn to try Method Wallet.'
That form is the page's only interactive element, and the front door to a product that was pitched as much larger. Method Wallet's idea, in short, was consolidation: one home for Algorand's NFT scene, its DeFi apps and everyday token holding, wrapped in what the site calls 'a gorgeous interface.' Nothing behind that pitch is reachable from outside the waitlist.
What the homepage promises
Every feature listed on the page is the project describing itself. Translated into what a user would actually get:
| Concept | Real-World Implication |
|---|---|
| 'Native support for ASA NFTs out of the box' | Displaying collectibles issued as Algorand Standard Assets — the base-layer token standard that lets anyone mint and transfer assets directly on Algorand, no smart contract required for a simple token |
| 'Swap, lend, borrow, and stake your assets all from the comfort of your Method Wallet' | Accessing decentralized finance (DeFi) — exchanging assets, collateralized lending and yield-bearing stakes — from one interface instead of hopping between separate dApps |
| 'Non custodial' | The user keeps the account's keys at all times — the defining property of a non-custodial wallet — so no third party holds or can freeze the funds |
| 'Built-in Ledger hardware wallet support' | Signing transactions from a cold-storage device, keeping private keys off internet-connected machines |
| 'adheres to the ARC standards' | Working with dApps built to Algorand Request for Comments — community-written specifications for how wallets, apps and assets interoperate — which is what lets any compliant wallet connect to compliant apps |
None of those rows can be independently checked today, and that gap is more serious for a wallet than for most software. A wallet holds a public address and a private key, and whoever controls the key controls the assets — so the properties the page advertises (key custody, hardware signing, ARC-correct transaction formats) are exactly the properties a landing page cannot demonstrate. With no public build, the claims are the product.
February 2022: debut and doubt
Both methodwallet.app and methodwallet.xyz were registered three seconds apart on February 14, 2022, and the .xyz address still redirects to the .app today. The next day the @MethodWallet2 account on X introduced itself to the Algorand community: 'Imagine an #Algorand wallet with #NFT support built right in. And #DeFi.'3 A 'Sneak Peek of the Method Wallet!'4 post on r/AlgorandOfficial followed, earning 17 upvotes at 85 percent1 and a skeptical comment section. 'This looks like phantom and has me skeptical as a result,' one user wrote, comparing the interface to Solana's Phantom wallet; another was blunt about custody: 'no way I'm giving my private key to a third-party wallet (unless I create a new wallet solely for trading).'
The account's newest post is dated April 8, 2022: 'Probably nothing 👀 Beta waitlist 👉 methodwallet.app'5. In total the account shows 12 posts and 611 followers — and nothing newer in more than four years.
Four years of silence
The archival record shows why the page still reads as a launch in waiting. The Wayback Machine6 first captured methodwallet.app on February 15, 2022 and last captured it on June 8, 2026 — and the March 20227 and April 20258 snapshots are textually identical to the June 2026 one: the same 'Currently in private beta' line, the same four feature blocks, the same waitlist form. The copy has sat untouched while the copyright line advanced to '© 2026 Method Wallet.' The one administrative detail that moved is the domain itself: its registration was updated on January 20, 2026 and runs through February 2027 — whoever holds it is keeping it alive.
The silence extends to every channel where a beta would normally surface. No GitHub repository matches the project. An App Store search returns no app under the name — which cannot rule out an invite-only TestFlight build, the standard channel for a private iOS beta. A search of the Algorand Foundation's Discourse forum finds no thread about Method. The community directory awesomealgo.com9 still lists it among wallet providers as 'Algorand Wallet you'll love' — a one-line entry that has not aged. The site's only human contact points are the footer's Press and Developers links, which resolve to mailto: addresses (press@methodwallet.app, developers@methodwallet.app) rather than pages.
The one 2026 signal came from outside the project. On July 15, a Bluesky aggregator account10 recirculated 'Method Wallet enters private beta with built-in DeFi and NFT support for Algorand' — a summary of the same beta, four years on, posted as if new. Because the site's copy never changed, nothing in the post is wrong; it simply reads a 2022 launch as a fresh one.
What to watch for
Method's premise — NFTs, DeFi and token holding in one non-custodial interface — is where Algorand's active wallets actually went. Pera Wallet11 now does in-app swaps and staking, and the browser wallet Biatec12 ships signing-safety features on a near-weekly cadence; both had commits as recent as August 2026 in this site's earlier wallet field guide. Those projects are verifiable the way Method is not — open repositories, changelogs, app-store listings. The record above is not a verdict on the people behind Method; a private beta can always become a public product, and a quiet team can resurface. What would change the picture is a public build, a changelog, or any word from the team at all — and nothing in the record rules that out.
